Morris Hills Library News
Speed date? With a book? Ms. Pepperman's 9th grade honors class did a version of this in the library. Each student read a book independently and instead of writing a book review, or working on a presentation about the book, students had 1 1/2 minutes to convince someone to read their book! Students sat across from each other and presented and the other students took brief notes. Then DING! SWITCH! The students rotated throughout the room learning about each book.
The activity gave students a chance to organize their thoughts, speak one-on-one with someone that they may have not sat down with, "sell" their book to other students, and to do so all within a specified time limit. The students enjoyed the activity although the speaker needed some water breaks and the listener had some writing cramps. This was a great alternative to a "normal" book review. Bravo Ms. Pepp!
